The Chief Medical Officer for Ashanti Gold Sporting Club (SC), George Chidi has confirmed that the club will begin testing players for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease o Saturday, August 8, 2020.

The club has in the last couple of weeks conducted a general medical assessment of their players as they prepare to return to training as soon as the government lifts the ban on football.

Responding to rumours that some 4 players of Ashanti Gold SC have tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 disease, Dr. George Chidi has stressed that the report is false.

“That's not true because we have not started testing them of Covid-19, we are yet to start the COVID test, all things being equal on Saturday we should start”, the medical officer of the Obuasi-based club said in an interview with Oyerepa FM.

He continued, “It's no big deal anyone testing positive but we are yet to do the Covid-19 test, KCCR is ready to come to pick the samples but we are trying to put our logistics together. We need to put in place the protocols”.

Next season, the Miners club will be competing in the CAF Confederations Cup and is hoping to start training very soon to ensure players adequately prepare for the challenge that lies ahead.
