Manager for Swansea City, Steve Cooper has praised Andre Ayew for his show of mental strength during the team’s vital 1-0 win against Brentford in the English Championship playoffs.

In the first leg of the first playoff round against Brentford on Sunday evening, the Ghana international missed a penalty kick before subsequently scoring the only goal of the game to give the Swans an advantage ahead of the second leg.

Speaking in a post-match interview, his manager Steve Cooper has haled him for his mentality while underlining his importance to the Swansea City team.

“Andre has missed a penalty, but brushed it off and raised his game even more, and it came off with the goal. To have such an impact and score the goal tells you everything about the mentality he has”, the gaffer said as quoted by the official website of the club.

Steve Cooper added, “His [Andre Ayew] mentality is of the highest order, to brush off the disappointing return from a penalty where you fancied him.

“To have such an impact and score the goal tells you everything about the mentality he has. If anything, the miss affected him in a positive way.

“He is really important for us, and what is more impressive with his goalscoring record is that for a lot of the season he has played out wide, and not through the middle”.

Andre Ayew, 33, has scored 16 goals for Swansea City this season and remains key in the playoffs as the club seek promotion to the English Premier League.
