Ghana international, Andre Ayew netted a crucial goal to steer Swansea City to defeat Brentford at the Liberty Stadium this evening when the two teams clashed in Round 1 of the English Championship playoffs.

The two teams after finishing in the top 6 of the standings of the English Championship table at the end of the season are battling for promotion to the Premier League.

With a high prize at stake, Swansea City that played as the home team appeared the stronger side this evening. Their show of superiority saw them creating a lot of chances but they, unfortunately, failed to find the back of the net before the first-half break.

A little after the hour-mark, Brentford gave away a penalty kick when a defender brought down Rhian Brewster in the 18.

Andre Ayew stepped up to take the spot-kick but his effort was well saved by goalkeeper David Raya.

That failure charged Swansea City to continue fighting as they pushed men forward in hopes of getting the win at the end of the game.

Fortunately, Andre Ayew scored with a sensational effort on the 82nd minute when he was set up by Jay Fulton.

The vital win gives Swansea City an advantage over Brentford ahead of the return leg which has been scheduled to be played on Wednesday at the Griffin Park.
