The Ghana Athletics Association has now set the National Athletics Championships for next week.

The event, which was originally scheduled to take place on July 19, was cancelled after the Athletics Association failed to secure the required funds from the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to organize the event.

The championships will now take place on August 1 and 2 at the Togolese National Stadium in Lome.

However, unlike before, the championships would not form the basis for selecting Ghana's representatives at next month's African Athletics Championships scheduled for Mauritius.

The Athletics Association has already selected Ghana's representatives from the last national trials and other meets.

Meanwhile, Ghana's contingent to the African Championships will next week emplane for the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius to commence early training for the competition, which commences on August 12.

According to the Athletics Association, six local athletes made up of one male and five females are expected to make the trip.

Ghana's foreign-based athletes will join up with the rest of the team from their respective bases.
