Nsiah Asare Implores Ghana FA To Restructure Women’s Football

The president of Nana Afia Kobi Ampem Ladies Football Club, Mrs Evelyn Nsiah Asare, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to restructure women’s football by introducing a Division One League for regional clubs.

According to her, the FA in its capacity should recognise the elite women’s league as a premier league and ensure that women regional clubs are recognised as division one clubs.

Mrs Nsiah Asare, in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, said such a recognition would change the development of women’s football for the better.“The FA recognises the women’s league as a division one league so they do not recognise those of us playing regional football. They have tagged women’s football to those in the premier,” she noted.

The first tier and the second tier of the women’s football structure are not adequate. The second tier must have a national character and shape and as such develop regional football as division one.

“I am telling you that we buy everything at the regional level, same as those in the premier league. We pay referees, pay the police and pay for the stadium used for our matches which is not easy.”

She explained that if the structures were well implemented, it would help promote the development of women’s football in club administration, player safety and competition among the clubs.

Mrs Nsiah Asare further revealed that most of the players who feature in the Black Maidens were players at the regional level and so lifting them would help them win laurels for the nation.

She also appealed to the GFA to consider the regional clubs in the allocation of the US$500,000 FIFA Relief Fund towards the development of women’s football in the country.
