Listen to article

Former AshantiGold Chief Executive, Capt. Andy Sam has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, for CAN 2008.

LOC Chairman, Dr Kofi Amoah told the media in a statement that his appointment will bring to the Secretariat a plethora of skills and experience to the Committee.

He said the former Ashgold boss will also support the Committee with his passion for sports, which will undoubtedly be of immense benefit to the hosting and organisation of the tournament.

Capt. Sam is a product of Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst (UK) and served with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in various roles.

He is credited, whilst at AshantiGold, for embarking on several innovations leading to the dismantling of old structures and attitudes.

He resigned from AshantiGold late last year citing personal reasons.

It will be recalled that former Coach of the club, Hans Van Der Plume, resigned simultaneously with Andy Sam.
