President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku has reiterated that his outfit continues to engage the government to find a way of seeing the resumption of football activities in the country.

In March, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in an address to the nation announced that he is banning all public gatherings including sporting activities as a result of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.

At the end of May, the President in his 10th address to the national extended the ban on football activities to July 31, 2020, even though restrictions on other sporting activities have been eased.

In a letter to football clubs in the country in the midst of the uncertainty surrounding the likely competition of the season, Kurt Okraku has emphasized that the Ghana FA is in talks with the government to reach an agreement over the possible restart of the various leagues.

“Within the last few weeks, the GFA Medical Committee, the General Secretary and the Competitions Department among others have put together sound proposals which has been presented to Government through the Covid-19 Advisory Team and the sector Ministry for consideration.

“I have personally met with the Government Advisory Team on COVID-19 led by Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare to discuss the possible return of Football and what we would require to actualize it, resulting in a discussion on a roadmap for the safe return of football. The Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service and the Government of Ghana have been very open and supportive in these deliberations.

“We will continue to engage the COVID-19 Advisory Team so that together we would bring football back in the safest possible way”, a letter from Kurt Okraku to the clubs has said.

A decision on the fate of the 2019/2020 Ghanaian football season will be taken by the GFA at the end of June.
