Golfers set for Challenge final

Listen to article

The final competition of this year's Peugeot Challenge Cup tees off at the Tema Country Golf club this weekend after the successful staging of the final qualifiers at Tafo last Saturday for the South-Eastern zone.

Mrs Grace Afriyie and Asante Antwi came tops in the Ladies and Men categories in a competition that saw ten men and five lady golfers qualify for this weekend's finals in Tema.

The Tafo qualifier was held simultaneously with the Northern qualifier in Kumasi.

The Southern sector qualifier was played in Takoradi a week earlier.

The winners of these regional qualifiers and a few special invited players will square off at Tema this weekend for the prestigious Peugeot Challenge Cup 2006.

And in Accra on Sunday, ECOBANK's Maria Ben George and Joel Hyde are still celebrating their success from yesterday's ECOBANK Chairman's tournament held at the Achimota Golf Club.

At least, 50 golfers took part in the one-off competition, which was put together by ECOBANK as a farewell treat for Philip Asiodu, the outgone chairman of ECOBANK Ghana's parent company, ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED.

Maria Ben George won the ladies competition with 37 points beating usual suspect Mona Captan to second with 34 points.
