Ghana legend, Abedi "Pele" Ayew has revealed that Hearts of Oak legend, Mohammed Polo was his idol while growing up as a footballer.

Polo, 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner was popularly known as the 'dribbling magician' is arguably the most technically gifted player to have ever emerged from Ghana and the continent by far.

According to Abedi, who also won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982 and UEFA Champions League with Olympique Marseille says he was always inspired to see Mohammed Polo playing on the pitch.

He added that Polo’s ability to run and dribble with the ball was something that he had to learn while growing up.

"Polo was my idol. When I see him play, I'll just be glued at the stadium and watch him," Pele told GTV Sports Plus.

"The way he dribbles, the way he controls the ball and the way he played inspired me. I always watched him," he added.
