Former Ghana U-17 captain, Godwin Attram has expressed optimism in the abilities of Coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor to succeed as head of the technical team of the Black Stars.

Largely referred to as CK Akonnor, the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak trainer was appointed as the head coach for the Black Stars in January to replace Coach James Kwesi Appiah.

Brought in by the new Ghana Football Administration (GFA), there is a lot of expectations on the gaffer to end the country’s long Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy drought which dates back to close to four decades.

With all eyes on how coach CK Akonnor will perform with the senior national team, Godwin Attram says he is confident he will succeed if he gets the needed backing.

“I would like to congratulate my senior coach [CK Akonnor] for this appointment. I want to urge him that he has what it takes to do the job.

“He should go all out to do things because he is the coach, he can make the decisions. We are all behind him with prayers. He should go all out and he will succeed”, Godwin Attram said in an interview with Joy FM on Saturday.

Coach CK Akonnor is yet to play his first match as head coach for the Black Stars after a scheduled AFCON squallier against Sudan in March was called off as a precautionary measure against the Coronavirus (Covid-19) disease.
