Meet The FIFA Junior Squad

Friends of the Nation, a non-governmental organisation based in Takoradi has selected Under-12 and Under-15 players from the Wassa West District in the Western Region to represent Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Junior Football Championship scheduled for Germany this month.

According to Mr Donkris Meruta, Executive Director of Friends of the Nation, the invitation to participate in the games was extended to them by a German club in Veellmar with support from the Deutsche Fussball Bund.

He said Friends of the Nation, in collaboration with Hasaacas F/C and the sports division of the Wassa West District Education Office, organised a series of justifiers for the selection of the players.

About 15 countries are to participate in the championship.

They include Costa Rica, Austria, Poland, Paraguay, China, Ireland, Russia, Switzerland and South Africa.
The Ghana Manganese Company has so far made a donation of about ¢75 million towards the travelling expenses of the team.

Other contributors include Jamkay Sports Enterprise, Swiss Lumber and Esam Travel and Tours.
