A sublime display of foot work saw Defenders Skating Club emerging tops in the Loya skating fiesta held at the A&C Shopping Mall at East Legon in Accra, last Saturday.

The winners recorded 1,329 points, ahead of Lil Saints who placed second with 1,327 points.

The programme, arranged by Promasidor Ghana Limited, producers of Loya instant full cream milk was rescheduled as a result of the rains.

Hustlers, Unity and Godzilla clubs recorded 1,326, 1,267 and 1,095 points to clinch the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

For their efforts, the participants took home Loya products and special cash prizes from the sponsors of the competition.

For the many spectators, predominantly schoolchildren, who thronged the A&C premises, it was a memorable experience as participating teams demonstrated high levels of dexterity on the skating ramp erected by Promasidor.

Each skater was given two minutes to demonstrate his or her skill for the award of marks by three judges.
In all, it was eight-year-old Stephanie Yamoah who won the hearts of the spectators with her swift and uninterrupted moves on the skating ramp.

The well organised programme attracted skating clubs like Godzilla, No Fear, Defenders, Hustlers and Lil Saints.

The Managing Director of Promasidor Ghana, Mr Dirk Laeremans, described the programme as successful.
He pointed out that his outfit had targeted some basic schools with the idea of making the sport popular in the country.

Mr Festus Tettey of the Sales and Marketing Department of Promasidor promised that the programme would be held every quarter to achieve the purpose of making skating popular.
