My Best Friend

The beginning was a story to tell,
Remember those days we talked all the time.
The promises we made at the town's well,
All the forced impressions and searching for words that rhyme.

I made you believe love does not care about age,
As time went on, truths and secrets did unfold.
Ignoring the different affiliation, we got on the same page,
We then understood that not all that glittered was gold.

No matter how hard I try, I can't stop loving you,
Truths that wounded and left our hearts with scars.
Your love makes everything old in my life new,
The nights we spent just staring at the stars.

What was thinking, giving up on you?
We thought our love game would never end.
I forgot love was a game for two,
Now all I have in you is my best friend.
