TEN lotto operators and agents have been fined a total of ¢40 million by a Circuit Court were for using coupons that did not have the approval of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Service.
The court fined each of them ?4 million or in default 24 months in jail.
They are Ernest Mends, Yaw Gyasi, Lydia Serwah, Kwabena Sammy and David Asante.
The rest are Paul Adjei, James Dontoh, Kofi Kum, Kwasi Addai and Kwame Asante.
The facts are that on May 10, the Ashanti Regional Police Command in collaboration with officials from the VAT Service in Accra and Kumasi arrested them in a special operation at different suburbs of Kumasi.
They had refused to comply with the directives from the VAT Secretariat in Accra that ?only the approved lotto coupons alongside the old approved coupons should be used.?
