Wa, May 22, GNA - Members of the Catholic Church in the Tamale Ecclesiastical Pastoral Province (TEPPCON) have appealed to the government to effectively collaborate with the Church and other benevolent organizations in the country to map out strategies that would speed up the development of the country.

They specifically mentioned poverty reduction, accountability, transparency and provision of basic amenities such as health, water and education as areas they could effectively collaborate. These were contained in a nine-point resolution passed by TEPPCON at the end of a three-day deliberation on "Good governance and poverty reduction in Ghana; The role of the Church" at Wa. It was signed by Agnes Gandaa, TEPPCON Partnership Co-ordinator.

The Participants, who were drawn from the Tamale Archdiocese, Navrongo/Bolgatanga Diocese, Wa Diocese, Yendi Diocese and Damongo Diocese, appealed to the government to consider disbursing poverty reduction funds without considering party lineage.

They promised to contribute their quota towards the development of the country by constantly sensitising the public on transparency and accountability in various district Assemblies. They also encouraged women in particular to get involved in active politics in order to liberate their colleague women from their "perpetual bondage" for them to strive to achieve the ultimate. "We plead with the government in power (that) in dealing with poverty reduction issues, (it) to give consideration to beneficiary target groups, irrespective of their political lineage and we shall encourage Catholic Women to get involved and take up the mantle in party politics and leadership positions," the resolution said.
