The Tema Police Command has mounted a search for the arrest of owners of the large quantities of substances suspected to be cocaine, intercepted on the Prampram Dawhenya road.

The Nigerian driver of the Mercedes Benz bus, used in carting the cocaine is currently in police custody at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters while investigation continues.

In an interview, the Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Nketia Yeboah appealed to the public to give useful information to the police for the arrest of the owners of the narcotic drugs.

He said the police had cause to believe that there were some tycoons behind the crime because of the abandoned Toyota saloom car and the $10,000 left in it.

Chief Inspector Nketia Yeboah said the police would be able to determine the weight, cost and quality of the substance after a forensic laboratory analysis had been completed.

He said the police were in contact with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to discover the owners of the vehicles.

The police, in the early hours of Sunday, intercepted a Mercedes Benz bus loaded with large quantities of substances suspected to be cocaine on the Prampram -Dahwenya road.

The impounded substances were packed in 67 large cartons and disguised as boxes containing fresh fish.

Also impounded was a Toyota saloon car with registration number GR 1742 X, which had $10,000 left in it, believed to be conveying some members of the syndicate.

The haul is believed to be one of the biggest in the country recently.
