Chief Executive Officer of S.O Herbal Clinic, Dr. Sophia Afi Ocansey has cautioned President Akufo-Addo over the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from China.
Ghana’s effort to combat the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been given a major boost with the arrival of over 38,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical materials from China.
The PPE for Ghana includes 3,000 N95 face masks used by health workers; 10,000 protective face masks for mass usage; 2,500 medical protective suits; 2,500 medical goggles; 10,000 single-use gloves; 10,000 disposable shoe covers and 800 infrared thermometers.
The items are part of 60 tonnes of materials that have been donated to Ghana and 17 other African countries for the fight against the disease. The items, which arrived at the Kotoka International Airport onboard a chartered Chinese aircraft, would be distributed from Ghana to the other African countries with the support of the World Food programme (WFP) Ghana office.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Boamah Darko–host of “Maakye” on Accra-based Hot 93.9FM, Dr. Sophia cautioned the government over the use of the PPEs by indicating that:
“My brother, I think the materials are from China right? the country where people are dying because of the virus-like fowls right? You and I are not in china …where on youtube have you seen China, where the virus started, has made the face masks and sharing to people in other countries? We should be careful with the PPEs…we shouldn’t use them at all”.
She continued,”I don’t know why we have the Police, Military, Immigration, Navy and we still importing the PPEs…These security services can produce them here…I really have faith in them that they can produce a locally manufactured PPEs for our safety”.
