Six teachers of Amanchia Junior Secondary School on Wednesday signed an undertaking to exhibit a high sense of professional conduct when they appeared before the management of the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Education Directorate at Nkawie. They also pledged to stay permanently in the town to end the frequent absenteeism and lateness to school.

The teachers were Gladstone Kornu, the Integrated Science teacher, Comfort Dagadu in-charge of Pre-vocation, Thomas Darkwa, English Language, Kwame Appiah Poku, Religious and Moral Education, Isaac Brew Effah, Social Studies and Michael Osei Fordjour, Pre-Technical teacher.

Mr Mensah Blankson, one of the teachers who is alleged to be a habitual drunkard, refused to report to the District Education Office and also the whereabouts of Mr Joseph Foster Amoah, the former Headteacher, who was demoted for misadministration and incompetence, was also not known.

The teachers were absent from school when Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the District Director of Education and the four frontline officers at the directorate paid a surprise visit to schools in the area and later paid a courtesy call on Nana Afrifa Bonsrah II, the chief of Amanchia last Tuesday.

The residents complained about the teachers' habitual absenteeism and their refusal to stay in the area in spite of the community's efforts to provide them with decent residential accommodation.

The teachers are on probation for three months. Mr Obeng-Darko warned the teachers that serious sanctions would be meted out to them if they failed to abide by the undertaking.
