Stay In Your Accra And Kumasi, We Don't Need You Here--Assemblyman Warns
31.03.2020 LISTEN

The Assemblymember for the Wute Electoral Area and the communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Hon. Wisdom Akpablie (Contour) has advised residents returning from Ghana’s coronavirus epicenters, to self-isolate upon arrival or risk mandatory quarantine.

His statement follows the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South constituency, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor advice and the recent president Akufo-Addo’s imposition of a two-week partial lockdown on Accra, Kumasi, Tema, and its surrounding communities.

The presidential directive which comes into effect after 1:am Monday morning has forced some residents of the affected areas to travel out and seek refuge in Lawui.

But the young Assembly Member is of the view that such moves may jeopardize Ghana’s efforts at containing the spread of the deadly virus.

In a series of meetings with chiefs, pastors and traditional leaders in the Electoral Area, the professional Teacher cum politician said, the only way to break the cycle of transmission, is for residents to stay wherever they are and avoid carrying the contagion from the epicenters to unaffected towns.

He warned that his Electoral area may not have the resources to quarantine anybody in any hotel so everyone should stay back and follow preventive measures detailed by Ghana Health Service and the World Health Organization.
