NIA Must Adhere To Akufo-Addo's Directive

17.03.2020 LISTEN
By TAG

I have observed with a saddened heart on how the National Identification Authority has turned deaf ears to the Precautionary measures and directives announced by H.E Akufo Addo on Sunday 15-03-2020 in connection with how to curtail the spread and possibly, eradicate the Novel Coronavirus( COVID-19) in Ghana.

The President, in his address, placed a ban on all public gatherings including closure of Schools, Church activities and Muslim prayer gatherings in order to avoid the rapid spreading of COVID-19.

It is, however, surprising to wake up this morning to witness that NIA led by Mr. Attafuah is still going on with mass registration of the Ghana Card in the Eastern Region. How heartless could NIA be!!!

Pictures available to us show how hundreds of Ghanaians are piled up in confined areas all in attempt to get registered for the Ghana Card. In the midst of this pandemic, it is only reasonable to halt any exercise that will bring people from all walks of lives together.

By this release, I am calling on the authority that be, to immediately call NIA to order. The ongoing Ghana Card Mass Registration exercise should be suspended indefinitely in order to protect the lives of the Ghanaian people.

We would also advise Ghanaians not to endanger their lives at the expense of the Identification Card at this critical period in our lives.

Thank You.

Sir Abdullah

President, TAG
