STAR Ghana Foundation Supports Anti-Vigilantism Election Project

STAR Ghana Foundation, indigenous grant-making organization in Ghana is supporting Ahafo Network of NGOs to implement anti-vigilantism election project in four constituencies in Ahafo and Bono regions.

The 15 months project titled: Managing Election 2020 Related Violence for Democratic Stability in Bono and Ahafo regions is being implemented by Tim Africa Aid Ghana, Global Media Foundation and West Africa AIDS Foundation.

The four constituencies benefiting from the GHC215,000 project are; Asunafo North and Asunafo South in the Ahafo region and Tain and Banda Constituencies in the Bono region.

The project aimed at mobilizing critical election actors at both community, district and regional levels to enable them to engage effectively with other relevant stakeholders in addressing party vigilantism and other election-related conflicts as well as increase responsiveness of Election Management Bodies (EMBs).

The project further seeks to increase the capacity and knowledge of citizens’ groups to engage and influence political party’s manifestos and presidential and parliamentary candidates around issues of inclusive and sustainable development.

Addressing vigilantism and election-related conflicts, Inclusion and active participation of GESI-groups in all stages of the elections (value-chain) influencing manifestos at constituency and national levels, including debates.

The project will embark on community outreach programs using infomercials, posters and animations to educate and sensitize citizens on vigilantism and election-related violence and its impact on citizens and sustainable development.

Speaking to the Media in Sunyani, the CEO of Global Media Foundation, Raphael Godlove Ahenu said the project will further use dialogue and interface meetings to discourage vigilantism and election related violence and promote peaceful interactions on emerging election issues.

According to him, both traditional and social media campaigns will be employed to encourage inclusive discussions on issue-based and emphasize on measures for rapid response to emerging electoral risk for quick resolution.
