Financial institution, Ecobank Group today became the official bank of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

The bank was conferred the sponsors title after a cash donation $150,000 to the Black Stars who would be making the debut at the World Cup next month.

The sponsorship package was unveiled at a function in Accra attended by Ghana's new minister for sports, Paapa Owusu Ankomah, his deputy O.B. Amoah, FA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi and staff of the bank.

Paapa Owusu Ankomah expressed his gratitude to the new crowned Ghanaian Bank of the Year for the cash injection.

“We are grateful to Ecobank and those preceding them for their donations to the Black Stars.

“It is expected that other corporate bodies would also follow in that order as the Black Stars prepare to shine at the World Cup in Germany,” the minister said.

The West African Bank is also presenting $100,000 each to the national teams of Togo and Ivory Coast, which are also participating for the first time in the World Cup.

The Regional Director of Ecobank in charge of the West African Monetary Zone comprising five countries, Albert Essien said the bank considers supporting Ghana, Togo and Ivory Coast where the bank operates, as key to its operations as corporate body.
