The 2020 Population and Housing Census Implementation Committee for Wenchi Municipality has been inauguarated. The 8-Member Committee has been charged to, among other responsibilities, facilitate the recruitment of Field Staff/Enumerators, assist to resolve disputes that may arise during the Census activities, carry out publicity campaign on the Census, identify and acquire offices for the Census and most importantly ensure a successful implementation of the exercise.
In the inaugural speech delivered on his behalf by the Municipal Co-ordinating Director Edward Abazing, the Municipal Chief Executive Dr. Prince Kwakye Afriyie underscored the importance of the Census exercise in development planning and policy monitoring of the area. He emphasised that the Census data were critical and indispensable in the implementation of decentralisation programmes.
He expressed confidence in the knowledge, experience and competencies of the members and had no doubt about successful conduct with quality results. He further called on Chiefs, Religious leaders, the general public and other stakeholders to avail themselves and support the mobilisation of the populace and resources for the exercise. He warned against bad census data as an affront and disservice to the people of the area since it could lead to misallocation of resources.
The Regional Statiscian Amatus Nobabumah who took them through orientation, stressed on intensive publicity to erase and correct some misconceptions for successful exercise.
The Committee chaired by the Municipal Co-ordinating Director and the Municipal Census Officer Joe Befaa Hanoi as its Secretary, has the following membership; Information Services Department (ISD), Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Health Service (GHS) and Representative from the Wenchi Traditional Council.
The Committee would hold its first meeting not later than five days after the day of inauguration.
