A SENIOR Accountant of the Volta Lake Transport Company who absconded after allegedly embezzling over ¢1.1 billion belonging to the company has been arrested by the police at Akosombo.

John Barnabas Ampah, also called Ato Kwamena, was arrested at the weekend at a hideout at Mafere in La Cote d'Ivoire.

The Senchi Magistrate's Court at Akosombo on April 11, issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he jumped bail and absconded.

He was indicted early this year after auditors detected disparities in the company's accounts and charged with falsification of accounts.

According to the police at Akosombo, Ampah who would be arraigned in court today, was arrested when his son went to give him money.

A police told the Times that upon a tip-off, the son was trailed to Elubo where he was to give the money to a man for onward delivery to Ampah.

The son and the man, identified only as Zaglo, were arrested after which they led the police to Ampah's hideout.
