Love Brewed In A Political Pot!

Chief Biney and Afia AkotoChief Biney and Afia Akoto

The title of today’s piece was borrowed from adomonline.com. I had few interesting titles but none could give a better description of today’s discussion than the title above. Indeed, the marriage of Chief Biney and Afia Akoto can best be described as loved brewed in a political pot.

I could not believe my ears when news of the marriage first reached me. Though a believer in love, I still wonder how a staunch Zu-za executive member could fall in love with an equally staunch executive member of the Great Elephant. Not even the pre-wedding pictures could assuage my doubt. It took a confirmation from a national executive member from the Elephant stock to convince me that the news of the wedding was not a prank.

I’ve since watched the video of the traditional wedding and can say without a shred of doubt that the two are madly in love. The way the two looked at each other was ample proof that they couldn’t wait for the programme to be over so they could literally tear each other’s clothes beyond the prying eyes of the public. One can only imagine the passion and intensity of their first post wedding ‘jigi-jigi’ bout, if it was indeed the first opening of the veil.

Seeing Chief Biney hold Afia Akoto so tight with her voluptuous behind soothing him, reminded me of my marriage about a decade ago. One could only feel pure bliss under such a condition. It amplifies the late Bob Marley’s words in the song ‘Satisfying My Soul’, “And then you hold me tight, you make me feel alright.”

It was a day political rivalry was relegated to the background as members of both the Umbrella and the Elephant danced and made merry to express their thanks to the Bearded Old Man above for bringing the two love birds together. It was gratifying to observe that the couple had received the full support of their party folks. The likes of Sammy Awuku, Yaw Adomako Baafi, Hon. Ursula Ekuful, Joshua Akamba, Sammy Gyamfi, Allotey Jacobs and a host of others graced the occasion. It was, indeed, a spectacle to behold!

It is obvious that many party executives and supporters have publicly supported the marriage. But I’m very sure some will express a little reservation in private. That is understandable considering the intense political rivalry between the Umbrella and the Elephant.

But trust Stephen Atubiga, the poor boy from Binduri, not to hide his reservations. He congratulated the couple but went ahead to appeal to Chief Biney to resign his position as an executive of the party. He argues that Chief Biney’s loyalty to the party may still be intact, but he may inadvertently reveal party secrets to his spouse due to ‘bottom power’.

Chief Biney has, however, countered that with the argument that nothing had changed in relation to his commitment to the Umbrella, except the fact that he had found love. And since love goes where love is, who are we to begrudge Chief Biney and Afia Akoto the opportunity to experience true love?

Afia Akoto has also assured those murmuring in her party of her unwavering support for President Nana Dee. I listened to the couple on Adom TV’s special Valentine’s Day edition and I have no reason to doubt them. Afia Akoto explained that there is life beyond politics and she is determined to have a happy and peaceful home with her husband and children.

Information reaching me indicates that the two have been in a serious relationship since 2016. I was told they even travelled to Israel together to seek the face of the Bearded Old Man above. Clearly, the two are genuinely in love.

Yes, theirs is a marriage rarely seen in our part of the world. Two political actors from opposite sides getting married is unheard of in this country. So one may understand the reservations and outright opposition to the union. But the two love birds must be given the benefit of the doubt. They must be given the opportunity to enjoy marital bliss just like any other politician.

Listen to Chief Biney: “People keep asking me why Afia? And the answer to that is; she has a good heart, she does things the way I want even when I've not informed her and there's peace and comfort in her arms.”

Massa, what else does a man need beside peace and comfort? Chief Biney would be a fool to allow such a woman slip off his hands.

I’ve admired both Chief Biney and Afia Akoto from afar. I missed the wedding but hope not to miss the naming ceremony of their first child. For they’ve proven that love conquers all!

See you next week for another interesting konkonsa, Deo volente!
