Church of Pentecost to build a Senior Secondary School at Akwatia

By GNA

The Church of Pentecost is to establish a Senior Secondary School at Akwatia as part of its programme to promote education in the area. The Church has therefore, acquired land from Akwatia Traditional Council for the school.

This was announced by Pastor Emmanuel Ahenkan, Akwatia District Pastor of the Church, at their Easter Convention held at Akwatia. Pastor Ahenkan appealed to Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, for assistance to begin the project. He said the Church's Preparatory and Junior Secondary Schools needed desks and called on the assembly for assistance. Pastor Ahenkan said students from their JSS recorded 100 per cent in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) on three consecutive periods and this encouraged the church to establish the SSS. The District Pastor said out of the 90 JSS within Kwaebibirem District, their school placed 13th last year.

Mr Yiadom-Boakye, asked the church to formally request for the assistance from the Assembly and gave the assurance that their request would receive favourable response.

He said provision of infrastructure and furniture to schools to improve on education in the district was a priority agenda of the assembly.

The DCE called for discipline among the people to maintain good sanitation and environment while they endeavour to register with the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.

On employment, Mr Yiadom-Boakye said plans were underway to train and equip people, especially the youth, to serve as rural education volunteers, auxiliary nurses, community protection unit, sanitation and waste management as well as agriculture.

However, he regretted that out of 85 people trained in the production of tie and dye, batik, powder and pomade making and each given 2.5 million cedis loan, only three of them utilised the skills acquired and the money but the rest could not be traced
