Headlines Majority Of Political Parties Want New Voters Register--John Boadu
FEB 2, 2020 LISTEN

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, says a majority of political parties in the IPAC meeting supported the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 general elections.

The parties believe the EC has made a solid case for a new register in terms of cost, time and credibility .

"During the IPAC meeting ,most of the political parties agreed there must be a new register to enable it to be credible ahead of 2020 elections,'' John Boadu told Kwaku Dawuro on 'Anopa Nkomo' on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

In the estimation of the parties, the EC had made a solid case for a new register in terms of cost, time and credibility, hence their decision to support the commission to compile the new register.

He wondered why any political party or group would be opposed to an exercise by the EC intended to enhance the credibility of the polls in December.

“We cannot fathom how the compilation of new voters register to improve and enhance the credibility of our elections can be construed by any reasonable person as a recipe for chaos.

Meanwhile, the NDC and some groups, have described the EC’s move for a new register as a wasteful venture.
