Leave The EC To Do Its Work--Adomako Baafi

General News Leave The EC To Do Its Work--Adomako Baafi
JAN 23, 2020 LISTEN

A former Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi has appealed to political parties to give the Electoral Commission (EC) the peace to do its work.

He said demonstrations against the EC could negatively affect the country's democratic credentials and so any party with concerns over the electoral process must use the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) for redress.

”Let's allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to do their job and stop the unnecessary demonstration. The EC is an independent body that needs peace to do their work and ensure the 2020 election is free and fair,” Yaw Adomako Baafi told Lawyer Ohene Gyan on 'Pae Mu Ka' on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7.

Adomako Baafi said the 1992 Constitution guaranteed the independence of the EC, a fact which must be respected by all.

In that respect, he said, no one, including the President, could subject the commission to any form of control.

According to him, the commission is well-positioned to carry out its mandate because it is among the best electoral bodies in the world.

The disgruntled parties say there is no need for a new voters' register, arguing that the electoral governing body is engaged in frivolous spending.
