Four Players of BA United remanded for Assault
A magistrate court B in Sunyani has remanded four players of Brong Ahafo United Club into prison custody for allegedly assaulting their colleague, Alex Odenkey, over bribery scandal.
The accused persons Alhaji Abbas, Kwasi Boateng, Ibrahim Adams and Awudu Moro are to reappear before the court on 12th April for further hearings.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, assault and causing harm, except the first accused person who pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and causing harm with explanation.
Counsel for the accused persons, Lydia Osei Marfo pleaded with the court to grant bail to the accused persons because they are men of substance but the court refused the plea.
Presenting the facts to the court, prosecutor Boison told the court presided over by Mr Albert Zoogah that on 30th march 2006, BA united suffered a three nil defeat at the hands of Tema Youth club at cape coast in the central region.
He said on 31st march rumours spread through the Sunyani municipality that the accused persons collected bribe from their counterparts,
The accused persons on hearing this suspected the complainant and planned to punish him accordingly.
Prosecutor Boison further told the court that on April 1, 2006 at about 90.30 pm at New Town, the accused persons conspired and subjected the complainant to severe beatings.
The complainant who could not stand the beatings decided to run for his dear life but the accused persons not satisfy chased the complainant to a nearby spot and continued the act.
The prosecutor said the first accused person used a bicycle chain to inflict wounds on the complainant's body.
A Good Samaritan rescued the complainant and sent him to the hospital.
Report was made to the police where the accused persons were arrested and charged with the offense.
Meanwhile the court has suspended the guiltiness of the first accused person to latter date.
