Choosing Between Two Hardships

Feature Article Choosing Between Two Hardships
DEC 23, 2019 LISTEN

The then opposition leader and now President Akufo Addo informed us about how the then government led by H.E. President Mahama was wicked and insensitive to the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian.

Akufo Addo made Ghanaians believe President Mahama was the devil's incarnate unleased from hell to govern us.

Candidate Akufo Addo and his surrogates said all manner of things against the previous government with specific target at President Mahama and with the ultimate goal of making him look bad in the eyes of Ghanaians.

Candidate Akufo Addo promised heaven to the good people of Ghana. A plethora of lists of promises was made by then-candidate Akufo Addo. Some of which included but not limited to reduction in electricity tariff, reduction in fuel prices, stopping corruption, never to borrow for development, create jobs for the unemployed graduates, etc.

We were told how Ghanaians were hungry while we were sitting on money and that when elected as president, the good people of this country would never experience hardship any longer.

What are Ghanaians experiencing three (3) years after getting the people's mandate and becoming the President of the Republic?

Ghanaians are experiencing unprecedented corruption in the history of our country under President Akufo Addo's watch. The best he can do is to clear appointees who are alleged to be corrupt.

The majority of the people are experiencing severe hardship due to the ripple effect of collapsing of Banks and other financial institutions that hitherto employed thousands of Ghanaians. Instead of creating jobs, our President is destroying the existing jobs.

We are witnesses to the government that has borrowed the most in our history within a very short period yet have nothing to show for.

Ghanaians are experiencing the worse form of hardship due to the increase in electricity and fuel tariffs instead of the reduction then candidate Akufo Addo promised.

As if that is not enough, the Christmas gift from now President Akufo Addo to Ghanaians is yet another increase in fuel price.

Yes, there was hardship under former President Mahama's regime but when asked to choose between Mahama's hardship and that of Akufo Addo's hardship, I would not hesitate to choose Mahama's hardship and I believe majority of Ghanaians would choose Mahama's hardship come election day 2020.

I shall return.
