Yendi: Don't Step Foot Here To Campaign In 2020 — Residents Block Roads Over Neglect

Residents of Oseido in the Yendi Municipality in the Northern Region have cautioned political parties not to dare step foot in the community to campaign.

They say previous and current governments have failed to provide the community with basic facilities including a school and electricity.

According to them, the community is usually cut off during the rainy season due to the absence of a bridge on the road.

In order to express their displeasure, residents embarked on a peaceful demonstration clad in red bands amid drumming and chanting “no road no vote”.

Addressing the press, the chief of the area, Daniel Suglo threatened to stop any political party which attempts to campaign in the area.

“Our main concern is the road and the bridge. All year round, when a woman is pregnant and has to deliver, they do it by the riverside. In the rainy season, nobody is able to cross the river. We do not know why we are voting. Are we not Ghanaians? 2020, if there is no road and bridge, there will be no vote. No politician should come to Oseido. We are stopping them from campaigning. “

A boycott of the 2020 elections seems to be the latest tool unhappy Ghanaians are using to force the government to address their concerns especially roads.

Roads have always been a sensitive subject in Ghana.

Recently, most communities have threatened the government to as a matter of urgency come to their aid to improve their lives as expected.

The past few months have seen massive nationwide protests in which residents have complained bitterly about deplorable roads with the national capital also featuring heavily in these lamentations.

For many of these residents, the Akufo-Addo government has failed to fulfill its promises of constructing roads or rehabilitating them.
