Gbegbeyise Methodist A/B Primary Wins Pepsodent Tube Challenge

Gbegbeyise Methodist A/B Primary School has been adjudged the overall winner of the Pepsodent Tube Challenge in the Greater Accra Region.

The event took place at the premises of Gbegbeyise Methodist A/B Primary School located at Dansoman, Accra on December 19, 2019.

The competition brought together 100 schools in the Greater Accra Region where each school was asked to return empty toothpaste tubes in order to win various prizes from the brand. As a result, 36,899 empty tube were returned and Gbegbeyise Methodist A/B Primary School emerged as winners with 2,309 tubes.

Partnering the Ghana Dental Association (GDA) and Ghana Education Service (GES) every year to make sure school children and their families are being taught to maintain the habit of correctly brushing their teeth twice in a day, the Pepsodent Tube Challenge fun competition was also introduced to sustain the practice of keeping the teeth clean and healthy at all times.

The competition which ran from October through to December, 2019 was also to ensure the 'Brush Day and Night' campaign become an exciting initiative among school children.

Some of the prize packages for the schools were Multi - purpose printers, school signage, acrylic mission and vision statement plaques. The rest were Notice Boards, Class Name Boards, Exercise Books and Notepads, Markers, Chalk pieces and Dusters and Certificate of recognition.

The Category Manager, Unilever Ghana, Joel Boateng indicated that “Pepsodent has been protecting the Ghanaian Smile for generations and this is an example of our brand in action…Pepsodent is committed to improving oral health among children.”

Vida Cofie, Headteacher of Gbegbeyise Methodist A/B Primary School in her words of appreciation said, “The children were encouraged to pick more and by the grace of God they’ve emerged the winners of the competition. We are so grateful to Unilever that you’ve recognized us and you have also given us our awards. God bless you.”

The School Health Education Programme Coordinator, Mina Delali Tsorblewu in her words said, “I’m so overwhelmed. I’m so happy that my effort has been rewarded because it wasn’t easy combining the challenge and the classroom works. It’s been great.”

Also present at the event were Eric Kumah, Brand Manager, Judy Adda, Assistant Brand Manager, Derrick Odechie – Bossman, Brand Support Executive, all of Unilever Ghana.
