The Chief Executive Officer of Joy Foundation in Tarkwa Joycelyn Andoh has made a cash donation of 10,000 Ghana cedis to support the bridge project of Apinto Divisional Council.

The project is aimed at rehabilitating the four bridges that link between Awudua and Prestea. The bridges are crucial for the movement of goods and services between the two communities.

The donation was made during the climax of 2019 Amankuma festival at Awudua in the Prestea Huni-Valley municipality.

In the past, there was a railway line between Tarkwa and Prestea through Huniso and Awudua. The train provided easy movement of goods and services between the towns and villages on the route. The line after several year has become defunct and is unlikely to be reactivated.

The current condition of the wooden bridge within the two communities posses danger at the lives of the people who ply that route. This has hugely affected access to both towns and the adjourning communities. Whereas it take approximately 45 minutes by foot (3km) to walk from Awudua to Prestea, the same journey takes about 55 minutes to get Prestea through Bogoso by car.

Joy Foundation is a non-governmental organisation which focuses on women and children empowerment as well as orphans and the less privileged.

Every year the foundation feeds hundreds of children who are on the streets and at orphanage homes and widows.

It also gives scholarship to brilliant but needy children in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem municipality.

This year the foundation will host widows and the aged in the municipality on December 26-27, 2019 to bring joy and happiness to them during the festive season.
