The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has cut sod for the construction and rehabilitation of 100 kilometres of roads in the Kumasi Municipalities.

At the sod-cutting ceremony in Krofrom on Friday, Dr. Bawumia announced the project will cost €55m Euros and the funds have already been approved by Cabinet and Parliament.

"The cost of this project is €55m, which has been approved by Cabinet and Parliament. The money is available and there won't be a situation where they will start the project and then there will be an issue of no money," Dr. Bawumia said at the ceremony.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that the project is phase one of the rehabilitation of inner-ciity roads in the Kumasi Municipalities, and all the Municipalities, namely; Asokwa, Kwadaso, New Tafo, Krofrom, Suame will benefit from the project.

Also, Sub-metros, including Manhyia, Bantama, Subin and others will also benefit from the 100-kilometre phase one project.

The Vice President underscored the importance of good roads to the development of the economy and the nation, and also reiterated President Akufo-Addo's committment to the development of roads in the country.

"What we have come do here today is so dear to the heart of President Akufo-Addo because anywhere you go in Ghana, one of the major problems for the people is poor road network."

"Roads are very important for the development of the economy and the country. Without good roads, there can be no development. That is why we are committed to these projects."

The Vice President revealed that the Government will continue its massive road rehabilitation and construction program next year, repeating the President's description of next year as the year of roads.

"When Nana (President Akufo-Addo) said 2020 is a year of roads, it was not a rhetorical statement. He means business and we have given commencement certificate of 6.6 Billion Cedis to the Ministry of Roads and Highways," said the Vice President.

Dr. Bawumia listed a number of road projects the Government of Nana Akufo-Addo has undertaken in Ashanti Region alone since 2017, as well as on-going ones in Obuasi township, Krofrom, Kwadaso, Mampong, Ofinso, Konongo, etc.

"We are very focused and serious with these road works so I urge you all to continue to offer the needed support to President Nana Akufo-Addo so that we can complete this work for everyone to benefit and for our nation Ghana too to benefit."
