Oil and Gas AMET Consult Hold Career Seminar For Locals In Ghanas Oil Gas Industry
DEC 9, 2019 LISTEN

AMET Consult has held its annual Oil and Gas Career seminar to give training and guidance to Ghanaians who are seeking to pursue a career in the Oil and Gas industry.

The seminar was held at the Erata Hotel at East Legon on Saturday, December 7, 2019, and saw industry experts speaking to the youth who are still in school or have recently graduated and looking to gain employment into the sector.

In a short but rich presentation, Mr. Emmanuel Ametsi who is the Managing Partner for AMET Consult exposed the participants of the seminar to the operations and requirements in the growing Oil and Gas industry in Ghana and how one can start a career or secure a job.

According to him, there are lots of job opportunities coming up in the sector but most of the locals do not have the right skills and certification and hence miss out. This he believes has led to the expatriates taking over the industry.

In his words, Mr. Ametsi said, “The objective is to expose people to the oil and gas industry whether offshore or onshore and also expose you to the right skills needed in the industry. We also expose you to the internationally recognized training centers in Ghana”.

He added, “So basically this program talks about the skills highly demanding in the industry, how to get trained for these skills, and where to get them. Basically to prepare Ghanaians on occupying some of these roles that expatiates are occupying.”

In an interview with Modernghana at the end of the seminar, the Managing Partner for AMET Consult shared that past workshops organized has yielded results with some of his mentees getting jobs in oil and gas companies after acquiring relevant skills and certifications.

He is hoping the training will have the needed impact and spur people on to have the right training as well as certification to ensure they also get employed in the oil and gas industry.

Some of the skills he recommended include Rope Access, NDT, NACE Corrosion Technicians, CSWIP welding Inspector, BGAS Coating inspector, Production Technicians and many more...

Guest speaker for the career seminar, Mr. Carlos Acheampong who is the Managing Director for HSE Masters advised the participants on the need to prioritise safety as they pursue careers in the industry.

He opined that “Safety is the bedrock of the oil and gas operation notably because the industry has been previously plagued with many incidents…”

He also stressed on the importance of the training workshop and shared that it will help shape the mindset of the beneficiaries on how to excel in the oil and gas industry.

Meanwhile, AMET Consult has assured that bigger seminars will be organized in 2020 to expose and offer career guidance to Ghanaians in a bid to get more locals to gain employment into the sector.
