The Ghana Job Fair, Kumasi Edition, has ended in Kumasi with a call on job seekers to leverage on opportunities that bring employers and other firms under one roof to enhance their employability skills and advance their careers.

The Ghana Job Fair Kumasi edition which was held on November 29 is the third in the series of job fairs organised by the Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs(GGC), Migration and Reintegration as part of the German – Ghanaian Development Cooperation.

The fair brought together 1,700 participants and 70 registered companies and 20 start-up hubs in the Ashanti region.

It was organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, the Manhyia Palace, Delegation of German Industry and Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) for purposes of complementing the efforts of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman Council towards providing economic opportunities for the youth in the region.

It is also to support the Ghanaian government's employment promotion efforts while increasing access to labour market opportunities in the Ashanti region and ultimately, curb youth unemployment in the region.

Addressing participants, the Deputy Head of Mission for the German Embassy in Ghana said that;

“Ghana's bilateral ties with Germany date back more than 60 years and one of the critical areas of cooperation in which Germany has been complementing the efforts of the Ghanaian government is in the area of employment promotion.

The Ghana Job Fair is another testament of this cooperation and a great example of what we can achieve together for especially the youth in terms of providing better economic perspectives. By using human resources at the local level, we can engage new talents, new leadership and contribute to creating an environment that will build strong and affluent communities. I trust that this Ghana Job Fair Kumasi Edition will strongly contribute to this and might also become a model for other cities across the country”.

On his part, the Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Bright Wireko-Brobbey remarked that;

“Greater Accra, Ashanti Region and the former Brong Ahafo Region are among the main sources of irregular migration. We believe that when we are able to assist job seekers, particularly the youth, to find sustainable and decent job opportunities, they would not be interested in risking their lives to embark on irregular migration”.

Nana Owusu Diaka II, representative of the Asantehene reiterated the Asantehene's commitment to ensuring employment sustainability in the region, particularly for the youth and entreated organisers of the fair to make it an annual event in the region.

Anchored on its three pillars of Career Guidance, Employment Promotion and Reintegration Support services, the GGC offers employment promotion services to job seekers in Ghana and counsels its clients on socio-economic prospects in Ghana.

The Centre targets local population and returning migrants alike.

Its services include individual counselling, profiling, soft skills training, career guidance advice, psycho-social support, referral into vocational and entrepreneurship training and start-up support (training, equipment and business registration) among others.

Since its inception in December 2017, the Centre has counselled more than 9,000 individuals, offered more than 8,000 training to clients and mediated more than 450 persons into employment or supported in setting up a business
