You Won’t Be Relocated – Atta Akyea Assures Ningo-Prampram Residents Over Sea-defense

The Minister for Works and Housing Samuel Atta Akyea has said that the construction of the sea-defense project at Ningo-Prampram will not result in the relocation of residents living along the coast.

This assurance follows the agitations by residents in the area over a possible relocation following the commencement of the project.

President Akufo-Addo last week cut the sod for the commencement of the project by Messrs Bridge Global Consolidated Limited at a contract sum of GH¢394 million.

The project is meant to protect a coastal stretch of five kilometres from tidal waves, beach erosion and flooding.

But in an interview with Citi News, the sector Minister, Samuel Atta Kyea allayed the fears of residents, noting that the project will be of enormous benefit to the locals.

“The construction period is four years for us to do a five-kilometre stretch of protection. I do not think that there will be serious relocation here. On the contrary, we’re pushing the sea backwards to get land. So, I do not see how this arrangement is going to dislodge dwelling housing. The contract is going to help them do their fishing better. That is the whole point of the matter. Thus, it will protect lives from the activities of the sea and enhance livelihoods and property.”

The sea defence project is scheduled to be completed within four years.

According to President Akufo-Addo, the project includes the reclamation of land and the establishment of a mini-harbour to add more value to the project.

The project, when completed, will boost coastal tourism, increase fishing activities, improve sanitation and provide some employment opportunities for the indigenes.
