The Greater Accra Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Alhaji Ismail Bawa, regional first vice chairman for six months, for associating himself with a new political grouping called the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP).

A statement issued and signed by the regional chairman, Mr Danny Anang, said the suspension took effect from March 20, 2006.

It said the functional executive committee of the party acted upon the powers conferred on it by Article 38 (a) and 39 (1b) and (8b) and (e) of the party's constitution.

“The activities of Alhaji Bawa runs contrary to the dictates of the party's constitution as he continues to stay away from all party activities but associates with the new political grouping, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) of which he is a leading member”, the statement said.

It said the decision had been taken to maintain sanity and discipline within the ranks of party members in the region and urged all members and executives not to do business with Alhaji Bawa.
