Education Failed BECE candidates to rewrite in 2020 – GES
NOV 28, 2019 LISTEN

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed that 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who failed and were not placed in Senior High Schools, should be re-admitted to JHS 3 to re-sit the exam in 2020.

The GES says this forms part of government's commitment to improve access and quality in secondary education in the country.

In a letter signed by the Director-General of the GES, Professor Opoku Amankwah, the offer only applies to those in public schools.

According to him, all heads of Junior High schools are to ensure that students within that category who report to public schools are re-admitted and re-registered for the BECE in 2020.

He indicated that Regional Directors would supervise district directors to ensure that the affected students and headteachers comply with the directive.

Meanwhile, placement of 2019 BECE candidates into various senior high schools across the country ends tomorrow, 29th November 2019.

A total of 517,331 candidates took part in the examination nationwide this year.

The Computerized School Selection and Placement System, CSSPS, was plagued with challenges with some students unable to access the website.

It led to thousands of students converging on the complaints centre at the Black Star Square with their parents to rectify the anomalies with their placement in September this year.
