An Accra Circuit Court has remanded into police custody a trader for allegedly biting off the forefinger of General Seargent Kwame Abu when attempting to arrest him for misconduct.

Promise Anoma, 25, pleaded not guilty to the allegation of resisting arrest and causing harm.

The court, presided over by Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye has called for the defendant to reappear before the court on Friday.

According to the prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Ohene Agyei, General Sergeant Abu is resident at Nungua Nautical while Promise lives at Texpo on the Spintex Road.

He said on November 3, General Corporal Alfred Bortey Borketey and Lance Corporal Jerry Opei together in a police vehicle, arrested the accused, who had been reported at the Nungua Police Station for misconduct.

Chief Inspector Ohene Agyei reported that upon arriving at the location of the accused, Seargent Abu went to a nearby washroom while his colleagues approached Promise.

When the officers informed him of his cause for arrest, they asked him to enter the police vehicle but Promise requested to make a call before complying.

The officers informed him that he would be given the opportunity to make a phone call at the station.

Nonetheless, Promise refused to join the vehicle and proceeded to attack Lance Corporal Opei.

Seargent Abu who had returned to the vehicle attempted to prevent the attack when his right forefinger slipped between Promise’s teeth, causing him to bite it off.

Prosecution said they called for reinforcement and Promise was arrested and sent to the Police station.
