Wassa-Akropong Police appeals for support.

Wassa-Akropong (W/R) March 20,- GNA- The Police at Wassa-Akropong, capital of the newly created Amenfi East district has appealed to the Government for adequate logistic support to enable personnel of the service to perform their duties more efficiently.

Inspector Nelson Agbi, Officer in-charge of the Wassa-Akropong district said with the rising wave of crime in the area, additional personnel would have to be posted to augment the strength of the eight Police officers in the area.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Wassa-Akropong on Monday, he said these men are supposed to ensure the security of lives and safety of private and public property in more than 198 communities in the district, adding, "this has proved to be a very difficult task". Inspector Abgi said some Police Officers were sometimes compelled to work more than 12 hours a day owing to the lack of personnel. The Wassa-Akropong police have no vehicle and it depends on taxis and other commercial vehicles to perform their duties, rather with difficulty as drivers charge exorbitant fares.

Inspector Agbi also spoke about the need to provide decent accommodation for personnel of the service to enable them to give of their best.

Inspector Agbi appealed to the District Assembly, the mining companies operating in the area and public-spirited persons to support the service to enhance its operations. 20 March 06
