Sekondi March. 17, GNA - A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Thursday sentenced Basila Grunshie, a farmer, to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for causing unlawful harm to Samuel Watwuru, a self-employed who is physically challenged. The court also ordered the accused to pay three million cedis to Watwuuru as compensation or in default, serve another 12 months imprisonment in hard labour. The accused pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Andam Okyere said the complainant was a tenant in the accused person's house at Borborkrom. He said the complainant obtained permission from the accused to plaster his room and on February 12 this year employed the services of a mason to undertake the plastering in the presence of the accused.

Inspector Okyere said the accused got drunk in the evening and removed the cement used in plastering the outside of the room of the complainant with a cutlass since it was not dry but the complainant came from the room and confronted him. He said the accused raised the cutlass to cut the head of the complainant who used his left hand to block the cutlass and sustained injuries on the palm. Inspector Okyere said a report was made to the Police and after investigations, the accused was charged with the offence.
