UCC holds open day to showcase its activities to the public

Cape Coast, March 16, GNA - Authorities of University of Cape Coast (UCC) have over the past two years, introduced more than 10 new programmes, including sandwich courses, to enhance the country's human resource development. Some of the courses are Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Laboratory Technology Water and Sanitation and Industrial Chemistry.

Mr Jeff Onyame, a Senior Assistant Registrar in charge of the Public Relations Unit of UCC, who disclosed this to the GNA at the University's open day on Thursday, said it currently had more than 50 programmes. He said the UCC, was taking measures to have all new programmes accredited in accordance with regulations, adding that the Accreditation Board, had already organised a seminar at the UCC on the processes for accreditation of programmes.

The various faculties have mounted stands to showcase activities being undertaken such as research into plant medicine and crop varieties, by the Faculty of Science and the School of Agriculture, with a forum on HIV/AIDS later in the day. Students and officials of the faculties were seen explaining their exhibits to other students and the public. The day, is also being held to herald two congregation ceremonies slated for Friday and Saturday for about 3,000 graduands.
