Fomena-Ashanti, March 16, GNA - The Adansi North District Assembly has instituted measures to implement the District's Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS). They include coding of houses, education and sensitisation, registration, taking of photographs and training of agents.

Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, Adansi North District Chief Executive who announced this at a general meeting of the assembly at Fomena, said the assembly was committed to improve the health status of the people. He said vigorous educational drive would therefore, be undertaken to help sustain the scheme. Mr Ameyaw noted that the first batch of agents from Fomena had been trained to undertake the coding and registration of houses that had been completed and the people paying their premiums. He said commissioned collectors had also been trained and collection of premiums in the Dompoase and Akrokerri areas had begun. Mr Ameyaw said rehabilitation works on a permanent office for the scheme had been completed and would soon be furnished and provided with equipment. He said provision was made in this year's budget for the supply of office equipment and acquisition of two motorbikes for the effective operation of the scheme.

The DCE encouraged the communities to form health insurance committees to assist in facilitating implementation of the scheme within the district. "I wish to impress upon you once again to form the health insurance committees in the various communities without any further delay," he told the assembly members. Mr Ameyaw explained that each health insurance committee would supervise the collection of premiums and management of the scheme in the communities. He announced that the assembly would soon appoint a scheme manager to co-ordinate affairs of the scheme with the assistance of some National Service personnel.
