NOV 7, 2019 LISTEN

MTN Ghana has today commissioned a fully furnished dormitory for the Youth Vocational Training Centre at the Women's Action Group (WAG) at Pantang in Accra.

The 20-Unit facility has been constructed as part of MTN’s annual 21-Days of Yello Care program which gives back to communities all over the country. This year, the program focused on youth development and adopted the theme ‘Creating a Brighter Future For Our Youth’.

Among numerous projects that were undertaken across all regions in the country, the telecom gurus decided to provide a housing unit for WAG to help in the training of youth in crafts such as bead making, fashion and makeup, hair styling and cosmetics as well as a digital marketing component.

MTN staff personally joined hands to construct the dormitory with Yello volunteers engaging in blocks packing and some other construction works.

Speaking to the media after commissioning the edifice earlier today, the Corporate Services Executive for MTN, Mr. Samuel Koranteng stressed that the project will go a long way to help in training the youth who have been enrolled at WAG to make meaningful for themselves in future.

“In relation to our 21-Days MTN Yello Care which has resulted in this project, the theme for this year was creating a ‘Brighter Future for the Youth. So in relation to the other project we did around the country in the 21-Days of Yello Care this was one of them.

“It is in relation to empowering our youth and ensuring that they have the skillset to be able to go out there to fend for themselves economically, to fend for their families, etc”, he shared.

Mr. Koranteng was also full of praise for all MTN volunteers and extended his appreciation to all who helped in one way or the other to see to the completion of the dormitory.

The Founder and Executive Director at for WAG, Felicia Adade lauded MTN for the show of kindness while citing that not only is the facility going to provide shelter for her students but it is also going to aid in the enrollment of more youth at the training center.

“Am so grateful to MTN. They are really doing well. Moving around and coming to us here we are so much grateful and it’s a miracle”, she noted.

She added, “This is going to help us because the villages around, some of them are very far and the T&T is a problem so most of them sleep in the classroom which is not the best for them. Now that we have the facility we can take more students too especially those who cannot afford the T&T”.
