An Assembly Member aspiring for the Kambali Electoral Area, in the Wa Municipality, Mr Masahudu Adam, has organised clean-up exercise at Kambali to desilt some major gutters in the area which serve as breeding ground for mosquitoes.

He said at the weekend during the exercise that it was also to help reduce incidents of flooding and sanitation related ailments such as cholera, in the area.

“Wherever there is stagnant water in places like gutters, they bread mosquitoes and that also cause malaria that is why I have decided to mobilise the youth to clean the gutters”, Mr Adam, who is also an In-charge at the Ahmadiya Hospital at Kaleo, noted.

According to him, it was incumbent on any leader to identify development needs of his constituents, such as health and infrastructure, and to initiate steps to meet those needs.

Mr Adam, known within his circle as “Jabagdao”, therefore appealed to the voting public to give him the mandate to lead the electoral to the “promised land”.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled December 17 for the District Level Election (DLE) and the referendum to amend article 55 (3) of the constitution to allow political parties to participate in the DLE.

“Some of the duties of an Assembly Member are to mobilise the people and to promote peace for development, and by God’s grace I have those qualities, so I want to use it for the development of the Kambali Electoral Area”, he touted.

According to him, he had organised similar exercise in the past to put some roads in the area in good shape, and said “every leader needs to proritise the welfare of his people first if he is to succeed”.

Mr Adam also noted that the youth in the area had special skills and abilities that were needed for development and called on elders in the electoral area to join forces to nurture those skills for the development of the area and the municipality at large.

Mr Osman Issahaku, a participant in the clean-up exercise, commended Mr Adam for taking the initiative to bring the young men together to clean the gutters and appealed to other youth in the area to join in the subsequent activities.

The activity was also supported by some benevolent members in the community including Alhaji Abubakari Abdul Rahaman, popularly known as Alhaji Short.
