Visco walking club is in serious consultation with giant sportswear company Puma to kit the national race walking team for this year's world walking cup slatted for La coruna, Spain between the 13th and 14th May, 2006.
The effort of the club has been channeled through the ingenuity of Ghanaian sprinter based in Germany, Eric Nkansah.According to Mr Abu Afoako, an executive member of Visco walking club, Puma is doing a lot in Ghanaian sports circles with a typical example being the recent kitting of the National soccer team.
In a separate interview with Vincent Asumang the Ace walker who happens to be a forerunner in the club, he indicated that it would be a dream come through to see Puma kitting the walking team as a result of his personal encounter with Puma way back in 1999 where he won a bronze medal in the 20k men walking competition and was highly honored by Puma. It could be recalled that the same company sponsored the national athletics team to the All African games in South Africa in the year 1999.Asumang went ahead to thank his colleague Eric Nkansah for taking time of his busy schedule as he prepares for the Commonwealth Games to see to the sponsorship package from Puma for the walking team.
SELECTION OF TOP FIVE WALKERS
As part of preparation towards the world walking cup, the Visco walking is inviting walkers from all over the country to take part in a 10K walk at the Ahenfie Hotel on Sunday, 12th March2006 in the morning at 6:00a.m.as well as 4:00p.m. On the same day at Cape Coast.
According to Miss Mary Brew a welfare officer of the club, all walkers should make it a must to take part in these great events to enable the Organizers select the top five walkers for the world cup. Those in need of further information should contact the club as soon as possible.
