Madina (G/A), March 4, GNA - The Ga East District Assembly on Saturday organised a seven-hour clean-up exercise involving the sweeping of streets and de-silting of choked gutters from Madina-Zongo Junction to the Institute of Social Welfare and from the Ma Ye Hot Area towards the Aviation Line and around the Ritz Junction. The Madina Market Complex was also covered.

Assembly supplied rakes, Wellington boots, shovels and brooms to facilitate the cleanup exercise. It also provided three refuse collection vehicles while two other vehicles were also supplied by a private company to collect the waste that was heaped on the road side. Assemblyman of Pantang and Nkwantanang, Alhaji Baba Pantang and Mr Dantani Kassim, respectively led their people to undertake the exercise. The Chairman of the Madina Urban Council Mr Sam Dadzie remarked that the cleanup exercise had been very successful and needed to be repeated on monthly basis.

In an interview with GNA, the Presiding Member Ga East District Assembly0, Alhaji Baba Zakaria, said this exercise would be carried at the end of every month until further notice and warned that those who would not clean their gutters and environment would be handed over to the Madina Urban Health Officers for prosecution. 4 March 06
