Flood Cuts Off Peace Town In Ngleshie, Amanfro

Residents living in Peace Town in Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality have been cut off from the rest of the capital after several hours of rain on Saturday and Sunday.

So far, only heavy-duty vehicles are able to cross.

On Monday morning, children could not go to school because their parents are not willing to risk the receding waters.

For workers who are determined to get to their jobs and destinations, they have to walk through the waist level water-way meant for vehicles.

The road now turned water-way is disposed to snakes and other dangerous wild animals which threaten the safety of children and other vulnerable community members.

Speaking to JoyNews, the Assemblyman for the area, Thomas Kwakye Mensah, said he is worried and is working with authorities in charge to better the situation.

The residents who are predominantly artisans and self-employers trade are calling on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to come to their aid.

In 2015, residents of Peace Town had to travel a winding route for two hours to get to Kasoa to trade when a bridge over the River Jei could save them an hour and 40 minutes in time and energy in their daily commute.

In a desperate need to relax the burden, community members raised funds among themselves to construct a makeshift bridge to help in their needs.
