Scores of head porters (Kayayes) in the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly have been trained in a day workshop on how to add value to the service they provide.
Premised “Kayaye, I Can Be a Professional” the workshop introduced them to relevant Core Life Skills such as financial literacy, goal setting, conflict management, and decent work.
The Kayayes, got the opportunity to be trained on some soft skills - in addition, they were educated on the relevant institutions within the municipality they can go to for assistance when faced with issues such as abuse, sexual harassment, bullying and other support they may need.
Put up the EMB Ahenfie in Partnership with No Business as Usual (NBU) Hub "the workshop seeks to guarantees professionalism and re-brands the face of Kayaye in Kumasi and Ghana as a whole." said Madam Esther Martey, the project coordinator No Business As Usual.
In recent times, they have been social interventions by Non-governmental organizations in sharping the services of the Kayayes.
Among them is the EMB Ahenfie a Social Enterprise that provides Training, skills training, and design empowerment for Kayayes thereby generating a business idea that will foster its sustainability; the grocery shopping services.
On its side, the NBU Project within its project life targets vulnerable groups in the Asokore Mampong Municipality (AMMA) with special emphasis on Kayayes (head porters).
